PHL210 - Introduction to Ethics
Course Description
his course will explore the concepts of morality and values, and examine representative ethical theories and concepts around ethical decision-making, codes of moral conduct, obligation, responsibility, permission, utilitarianism, Kantianism, virtue ethics, consequentialism, distributive justice, social justice, exploring the role of ethics in society and applications to contemporary moral problems. Moral problems that may be examined include abortion, euthanasia/assisted suicide, capital punishment, war, hunger and homelessness, global resource inequality, animal rights, the trolley problem, the free rider problem, the environment and future generations, racial and gender injustice, sexual and reproductive autonomy, exploitation, or personal and social responsibility and public policy.
