Course Description

Prerequisite: Eligibility for ENGL C1000/C1000H (formerly ENGWR 300/480) or ESLW 340*General Education: Local GE L3 (effective Fall 2025); Cal-GETC Area 3B (effective Fall 2025)*This course critically examines graphic novels and manga. It explores the social, cultural, and historical contexts reflected in these mixed-media genres, analyzing thematic, character, and structural development and exploring the relationship of image and text in this development. This course typically includes at least five full-length works as well as numerous background readings.
