ENGLT304 - Introduction to Poetry
Course Description
Prerequisite: Eligibility for ENGL C1000/C1000H (formerly ENGWR 300/480) or ESLW 340*General Education: Local GE L3 (effective Fall 2025); Cal-GETC Area 3B (effective Fall 2025)*This course introduces the art of poetry. It includes the analysis and appreciation of poetry as a type of literature with careful attention to the elements of poetics, the various styles of poetry, and major poets and poetic movements. Poetic theories and poems by a wide variety of traditional and contemporary poets as well as poetic theory are examined.
